What to do if the gas symbol flashes on the Camper Unit display

Most Grand California owners, whose GC has a gas heater installed, will certainly know this error. Neither the water nor the air gets warm and on top of that the gas symbol flashes on the display of the camper unit.

A look at the Grand California’s user manual doesn’t really help here either.

What to do when the gas symbol flashes

In the first step, we need to find out what error code the Truma heater displays. We can do this without much effort through the service door of the heater in the area of the bench dinette.

The most common error is E 517 H

This error means that something is wrong with the gas supply. Of course, this can have a whole range of causes in the first place. We would like to give you a little checklist so that you don’t panic and your heating system performs as usual.

Checklist

  • Gas bottle full?
  • Gas bottle turned up?
  • Is the high-pressure valve depressed?
  • Is the crash sensor engaged? The yellow pin on the Truma Duo Control must be pressed in.
  • Gas line in the kitchen (behind the flap) open?
  • Window above the dinette completely closed?

Attention !

You can clear the error via the display under the seat, i.e. directly on the Truma display. To do this, press the round knob and the heater will restart. If the error is not corrected and it is cleared four times, the heater will automatically lock for 15 minutes. This time cannot be bypassed. The error pattern changes to the extent that the error E 517 H is no longer permanently displayed but flashes. After 15 minutes, the error lights up permanently again and can be reset again.
