Problems #
- Loud combustion noise when engine is cold
- Jerking during acceleration
- Engine start delayed
Causes #
- Deviations within the specifications of diesel fuel can cause deposits in the injectors (injection units). These deposits can have a negative effect on the injection quantity, the spray pattern and the combustion in the cylinder.
- Particle ingress in the injectors (injection units) can also change the spray pattern. These particles usually originate from incipient damage to the high-pressure pump.
Solutions #
- Cleaning of the injection units by means of multi-purpose additive for diesel fuel.
- Check the return flow rates of the individual injection units when the engine is running and check the fuel system for the entry of metal chips.
Detection of metal chips requires complete replacement of the high-pressure fuel system.
If no metal chips are detected, but the return flow is not correct, the corresponding injectors (injection units) must be replaced.
