Customer statement and workshop findings #
- Customers complain about foreign objects (e.g. insects) inside headlights or rear lights.
- The foreign bodies are visible without any recognizable external force.
Technical background #
- Headlights and rear lights are designed as “open systems” to ensure temperature exchange and air circulation.
- Ventilation openings in the housing are necessary, but can make it easier for foreign bodies to gain access.
- The foreign bodies have no effect on the function, condition or service life of the lights, but are only a visual problem.
Measures for the removal of foreign bodies #
Headlight:
- Open the service flap and, if necessary, remove the control units or add-on parts.
- Carefully remove the foreign bodies using a vacuum cleaner or an oil-free compressed air gun.
- Alternatively: Push the foreign body into a non-visible area.
Rear lights:
- Remove the rear light and remove the dust caps.
- Remove foreign bodies with a vacuum cleaner or compressed air. Light shaking movements can help.
- If not possible: Move foreign objects to non-visible areas.
Notes #
- Further repair measures must be carried out independently.
- Unjustified replacement of luminaires can lead to the rejection of warranty claims.
- Headlights or rear lights that are sent in under warranty or as a gesture of goodwill can be assessed as faultless and charged back.
Customer information #
- The technical background must be explained to customers, including the purpose of the ventilation openings and the lack of impact on the luminaire function.
- Warranty claims are not applicable to this problem.
