Warranty overview Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles

A valid warranty, almost nothing could be more important for any Grand California owner. Even a good 4 years after the market launch of the Grand California, not all teething troubles have been eliminated. Among other things, the bathroom wall and the third brake light should be mentioned here as really cost-intensive or repair-intensive problems.

If, for example, water penetrates through the 3rd brake light and makes its way to the front, repair costs can quickly add up to over 2000 euros.

If you are currently considering buying a new Grand California, 100 percent of your order should include the longest possible extended warranty. We paid just under 3600 euros for the extension in 2021, currently you can no longer find prices in the VWN configurator. However, a look at the website of Volkswagen Financial Services helps, there you can calculate the price for the warranty extension individually, this depends among other things on the annual mileage.

Now I stumbled across the topic of extended warranty on Facebook myself yesterday, because there are differences in both the warranty type and scope. So you read again and again about GC owners who were refused warranty repair for the refrigerator, for example.

But why is that? To do this, we need to take a look at Volkswagen’s warranty types.

What are the guarantees?

Volkswagen offers 4 different warranties, we will leave out the warranty packages for HV batteries at this point, because there is no Grand California with electric drive yet.

1. manufacturer warranty

Every buyer automatically receives the manufacturer’s warranty when buying a new car, it is valid for 2 years and is not bound to a certain mileage. Volkswagen describes the scope like this:

Every new Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles vehicle comes with a two-year manufacturer’s warranty, also known as a factory warranty. If, contrary to expectations, a defect occurs in your vehicle, the manufacturer’s warranty will cover the full cost of repairs. There is no deductible on your part. Damage covered by the manufacturer’s warranty includes, but is not limited to, defects in materials and workmanship that are not due to wear and tear.

Thus, you can be sure – to take up the refrigerator example again – that if it has a defect, you do not have to pay for the repair. Of course, the manufacturer’s warranty covers the complete vehicle and therefore also the camping body.

Of course, there are also exact conditions in which a claim is covered and when it is not. It is important that the service and maintenance intervals are always observed!

You can find the full warranty terms here:

Warranty conditions

By the way, the manufacturer’s warranty is valid in the entire territory of the European Economic Area(EEA) as well as in Switzerland. A complete overview of the EEA states can be found here -> %C3%

2. warranty extension

The warranty extension applies following the manufacturer’s warranty with a maximum term of three years. If you take out the maximum possible warranty extension when purchasing the Grand California, the complete warranty protection is valid for 5 years.

If you decided against the warranty extension when you bought the Grand California, that’s not a big deal for now. The extension can be concluded subsequently within the valid manufacturer’s warranty. It should be noted that the warranty extension can only be taken out up to a maximum mileage of 100,000 and is valid up to a maximum mileage of 200,000 kilometers.

The scope is described by Volkswagen as follows:

Whether your commercial vehicle has not even been ordered yet or is less than two years old, if you want to protect your vehicle beyond the factory warranty, you can take out the extended warranty from Volkswagen Financial Services. This is possible up to a vehicle age of two years and a total mileage of 100,000 kilometers, provided that all maintenance intervals have been observed. You can protect your vehicle with the extended warranty for up to three additional years with the scope of the manufacturer’s warranty – only the paint and rust-through warranties are not included in the extension.

The complete camping structure is also covered with it.

3. used car warranty

With the used car warranty, things now get a little more exciting, because the scope differs massively from the variants mentioned above.

If your Grand California is no longer under warranty, it is not possible to take out a used car warranty online; this must be done on site at a dealer.

Benefits of the used car warranty

  • Reimbursement of labor and material costs (for unplanned repairs of a variety of mechanical and electrical vehicle parts).
  • Transferable in case of private resale of the vehicle
  • Individual deductibles and contributions
  • Automatic extension of the functional warranty by one year

Requirements

  • Vehicle age between two and eight years at conclusion Maximum total mileage of 150,000 kilometers at conclusion.
  • Limited annual reimbursement amount of 2,000 euros starting from 200,000 kilometers total mileage or a vehicle age of 10 years

The camping body is not included in the mechanical or electrical parts of the vehicle in this warranty:

Engine, manual and automatic transmission, axle drive, power transmission shafts, steering, brakes, fuel system, electrical system, comfort electrical system, air conditioning system, cooling system, safety systems and exhaust system.

Likewise, a deductible of either 300 or 500 euros is due per claim.

The chassis is thus covered, but by no means the removal, which can be very expensive in the event of damage.

Please keep these points in mind when selecting a warranty and purchasing a vehicle.
