First pictures in the wild

It had been clear for some time what the facelift would look like, at least in pictures. Now the first Crafter / TGE are in the dealerships and the new cockpit is on show.

This TGE gives you a foretaste of the new cockpit, steering wheel and bumper, which will also find their way into the Grand California.

It remains to be seen what will happen to the camper body.

This article will be updated regularly as soon as there is new information on the facelift.
We divide it into two sections:
1. confirmed changes and
2. rumors.

Since its market launch in 2019, not much has changed on the Grand California in the model year changes.
The biggest changes since its launch are the seats and the light switch on the bathroom wall.
Next year, however, this will change enormously, with the interior in particular, or more precisely the cockpit, getting a complete overhaul.

MAN published on 13.10.
published the first pictures of the new cockpit in a press release and gave some details.
Who now thinks what does MAN have to do with it?
The answer is relatively simple, the TGE and the Volkswagen Crafter are the same vehicles, just labeled differently.
Since the basis of the Grand Californias is a Crafter, this conclusion can be drawn.

Confirmed innovations

The new cockpit

The new cockpit is going digital! The analog speedometer is being replaced by a digital instrument panel. The new interface between driver and vehicle will be a 10.4-inch touch display, which can be used to control the vehicle functions. A larger “Pro” version with a screen diagonal of 12.9 inches will be available as an option.

The previous gear selector lever is no longer used; in the future, the driving mode will be selected via a lever on the steering column.

We expect a completely new multifunction steering wheel in the VW Crafter and therefore also in the Grand California.

New control units and assistance systems

In addition to new sensors and cameras that support the driver, there will be massive changes to the on-board electronics. The KFG control unit is getting a massive overhaul.

New handbrake

The facelift will feature the electronic handbrake, which will be accompanied by an auto hold function.

Keyless Go

Keyless Go is coming! What many people already know from their cars will be available from 2024. If Keyless Go doesn’t mean anything to you, you can find an explanation HERE.

New bumpers

Even if the main changes are in the interior, from the outside there will be new bumpers.

No lithium ex works

We now know for sure that there will be no lithium battery for the Grand California ex works. The Car Electric solution will also be compatible with the new Grand California.

Current rumors

New KFG = connectivity

The adjustments to the board electronics will make it possible, among other things, to control the living space heating via the Volkswagen app, for example, or to call up water levels.

New Camper Unit

The current camper unit will be revised, a display with functions and dimensions, as in the new California Concept, is likely. Also with regard to the new KFG, which will be installed 100 percent.

Improvements to the cabinets

The wall units are to be fitted with nets so that the contents no longer fall out when they are opened. Similar to the middle cupboard at the back.
