Volkswagen cancels WeConnect app

Learn here that Volkswagen's WeConnect app is being discontinued and will be replaced by the new Volkswagen app. No new registration required.

Volkswagen emailed users of its WeConnect app this week to inform them that the app will be discontinued on Nov. 08, 2023. Further access to your vehicle is no longer possible after this date.

VW also names a successor in the announcement: the new app is now simply called “Volkswagen” and is available for download from the Apple and Google app stores.

The new Volkswagen app

Fortunately, you don’t have to re-register to use the new Volkswagen app, the WeConnect login details will still work.

In terms of the Crafter and Grand California, there is no significant difference in functionality between the old WeConnect and the new Volkswagen app. The design looks a bit tidier and more modern.

One thing that bothers me personally is the ride overview. In the WeConnect app, the data was displayed directly, whereas now the data is loaded via the normal Volkswagen website. There you have to log in a second time to finally get to the desired data. This takes considerably longer compared to the WeConnect app. There is still a clear need for improvement here.

If you use the WeConnect app, please remember to switch to the new Volkswagen app.
