You’re going on vacation to Sweden, you’ve arrived in Lapland, found a great pitch right by a lake, the sun is about to set and you’re already looking forward to the upcoming Northern Lights show. The evening is perfect.
The next morning you are woken up by the rain dripping on your roof, you get up and make yourself breakfast. All your things are packed up and ready to go, you start the engine, put it in reverse and want to set off again from the small lakeside pitch…. But nothing works, you’re stuck, the ground is totally soaked by the rain.
Fortunately, the road is not that far away and help is in sight. A friendly Swede stops to help you, he even has a tow rope with him to get you out of your situation, but wait, the Grand California doesn’t have a towing eye at the back and you don’t have a towbar either…. Damn. Where are you supposed to attach the tow rope? There may be a spot under the vehicle on the frame….
You’ll notice I can get lost in stories 😊, but the situation isn’t that far-fetched. You quickly get stuck in a parking space and can’t be pulled out to the front. For whatever reason, Volkswagen has decided to deliver the Crafter without any towing option at the rear.
Fortunately, there is a solution to this dilemma 🤯. The magic word is “salvage solution” 🤩.
With these wonderful parts, you can upgrade the Grand California, the Crafter or the TGE and get ready to tow not only yourself, but perhaps also the odd stuck vehicle over the rear.
The set consists of two recovery brackets, screws, plates and shackles. The parts are screwed to the frame in no time at all, more precisely to the mount for the trailer coupling in the frame. The installation is done in 30 minutes, after that you don’t need to panic 🤞. All right, you can still get stuck.
We are now offering this set in our online store. There are different versions, so you can choose between red, black and orange for the shackle color. If you have installed a trailer coupling, there is also a suitable variant here, please note the description in the online store! The prices are between 229 and 259 euros. Of course, some of you are going to gasp again and tell everyone that we are filling our pockets and getting totally rich by ripping off other Calif drivers. But hold on….
The recovery eyelets are manufactured by our partner Extrem Vans in Germany and are of a quality that pulls the Crafter frame apart.
Seriously, the eyelets are not cheap, but they are definitely good value. We have been fitting them ourselves for 6 months and have even used them. Everything works perfectly 👊
Visually, they are also quite nice.
