Because of our diesel heating, we only used gas for cooking.
We’d been fed up with the huge gas bottle in the rear cupboard for a while…

Gas supply for diesel heating

In our second Grand California, we deliberately swapped the gas heating for a diesel heater. There are various reasons for this, including the fact that

Unfortunately, this option didn’t turn out to be ideal either… πŸ˜…
The small cartridge always froze in the cupboard and not enough gas reached the stove πŸ™ˆ
End of the story: The conversion was also thrown out again πŸ˜‚

Then it took some time again, but when we got the self-sufficiency package from Car Electric, new ideas came to mind πŸ™ˆ

If we now have “enough” electricity, we can convert to induction!

First things first: you never have enough electricity πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Naturally, we approached Car Electric with our idea and were able to convince them to work on a joint project.

So we quickly added an additional battery and an additional inverter to our self-sufficiency package, giving us a total system capacity of 450Ah and 3200W. This laid the foundation for the new kitchen. 😎

The hob

We chose the VΓ€lbildad (click to go directly to IKEA) from Sweden for €229. The size is perfect and it can easily be limited in power (1500 – 3700W).
Of course, you could also buy from Thetford at this point, but then you’d have to dig more than five times deeper into your pocket… for what?! πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

The sink

Right from the start, it was important to us that it not only looked pretty, but was also practical and, above all, usable!
“Do you know Queensize?” We were immediately in love – thanks SΓΆri! ✌️- and no other tank was an option. The smallest version costs €175 and is just big enough to fit in the Cali kitchen.

The tap

Classic, simple, elegant, modern, the Reich Linnea L single-lever mixer is available for €100.

Once we had selected and procured the components, we were able to have a new worktop made by a carpenter for €500.

To complete the installation, a few small parts were still missing, such as two transition pieces from Reich and the matching spiral hose.

We are not sad to finally have a decent drain in the kitchen that is tight and even stays that way! 🀐

We have gained additional storage space in the large cupboard in the rear and have come a little closer to our independence, because we can also generate our own electricity via Cali’s motor or solar 😜

You can argue about taste – fortunately – but we have upgraded Cali for us and made it a little more perfect for us πŸ₯°

And I never have to clean the stupid cracks in the ugly gas hob again! πŸ₯³
