What a martial headline. 👑 It’s been a few days since we published an article on the subject of batteries on our website… but today it’s time for a conclusion 😌
Our battery setup
Our Grand California is fitted with a battery pack from our partner Car Electric in Reinbek near Hamburg, which includes two Super B lithium batteries and a Victron inverter. Not only does this allow us to use all the sockets in our vehicle completely self-sufficiently, it has also massively increased the service life. Compared to the standard battery, the package delivers six times as much energy as the factory solution from Volkswagen.

Over the last 12 months we have had the pleasure of testing a number of lithium batteries in the Grand California, starting with a 100Ah
So why the gold standard now?
The system works flawlessly at any outside temperature, and we have not yet managed to push the inverter to its performance limit.
As mentioned at the beginning, the statement “gold standard” is already very martial, but here are the good reasons why we make this statement:
- Super B lithium batteries are in a completely different league to their competitors in terms of quality. This is reflected above all in the data. The epsilons used have a life cycle of >5000 at 100% DOD. This means that the batteries can be fully discharged and recharged at least 5000 times without any loss of capacity. To clarify: 5000 times means discharging and recharging every day for 13 years!
- The self-sufficiency package is the only solution that has a certificate of non-objection from Volkswagen and therefore retains the full factory warranty.
- Integration into the vehicle is seamless, all displays and buttons function as they did when the vehicle was delivered.
- The batteries are installed in the technology cabinet and are therefore not exposed to the environmental influences in the engine compartment.
- Complete dismantling possible.
The partnership with Car Electric
Some readers sense evil and accuse us of being bought for this reporting. 🤯 …what a great thing it would be if that were the case! Cashing in for a few nice words…
We have to disappoint you, we didn’t receive any money from Car Electric and now it gets even worse, we had to pay for the self-sufficiency package ourselves.
Seriously, we are completely convinced by the self-sufficiency package and not least by the guys and girls at Car Electric, who are more than just the self-sufficiency package. Every question and every problem relating to electricity that we brought to them was solved or a solution was worked on. We are all the more proud that we were able to enter into a partnership with Car Electric last year.
To make things a little more transparent, we are happy to share the first project within the framework of this partnership here. Cali becomes gas-free!
Car Electric is helping us to replace the gas hob with an induction hob, and all the necessary preparations have already been made in Reinbek.
