Instruction – Cleaning the water system

At least once a year, your Grand California’s water system should be cleaned. Bacteria and other mates can settle there. The most common are deposits, which, of course, are not absent. Among other things, algae and limescale deposits readily form in the water tank and pipes. Sounds pretty nasty and doesn’t have to be. With a little love and time, the problem can be avoided: the tank and pipes will look like new.

Detergent

It is important to use a reasonable detergent and descaler. We have chosen the complete set from the company WM Aqua Tec and have had excellent experience with it so far.

You can buy the whole set at Amazon, with our link you can support us a little 🙂

The set consists of three components:

1. DEXDA CLEAN

Dexda Clean is a chlorine dioxide solution for complete cleaning and disinfection of the fresh water system. Among other things, the solution removes the biofilm already mentioned above, i.e. the algae.

2. KXPRESS

KXPRESS is a lemon solution that descales pipes, water tanks as well as the boiler. The positive thing is that both solutions KXPRESS and Dexda Clean can be used at the same time, but more about that later.

3. the silver net

So far, we have been using the silver net included in the set to preserve the water, which has apparently worked for the last year and a half without any problem. Opinions may differ on the subject of silver mesh, but since we don’t drink the water, we don’t consider the whole thing critical. Ps: rumor has it that there would be an extensive test in the spring… 😇 -Spoiler End-

Application and instruction

As mentioned in the introduction, the water system should be cleaned and descaled at least once a season. Our instructions refer to the use of the WM Aquatec set, so the steps may of course be slightly different for other cleaning agents.

1. completely empty the tank, boiler and lines.

In the first step, we drain all the water from the system.

To do this, trigger the frost monitor and turn on all the lines. You will find the frost monitor behind the heating flap in the dinette. There you will also find a line valve, which you have to open. The two main lines are located in the equipment closet of the Grand California.

If the lines are open, the residual water must be drained directly from the tank. On the top of the tank is a rotary wheel labeled 0L and 100L. This wheel is turned in the direction of 0L until the water runs out from under the car.

Then open the faucet in the kitchen and bathroom until no more water comes.

2. close lines and fill tank

The next step is to close all the lines again. The wheel on the tank must point to the 100L position again. Now the system is ready to receive water again.

Now fill the fresh water tank with 20 liters of water. Important at this point: no more than 20 liters!

3. fill disinfection and descaler into the fresh water tank.

The two solutions must be completely filled into the fresh water tank, I recommend you to use the service opening for this and not the filler nozzle outside.

This way you can make sure that the solutions completely enter the tank.

4. fill boiler and pipes

After the two solutions have been poured into the tank, the piping system must be refilled. To do this, open the faucet in the kitchen until no more air comes out of the system. Important: set the lever to cold as well as to warm, only in this way the boiler will be filled again and can be decalcified. Repeat the same procedure, hot and cold, in the bath.

Now fill the water tank to 60 liters and let the solution soak for four hours.

5. final filling and rinsing

After the soaking time, COMPLETELY fill the tank, open all faucets and let the water run for a few minutes, both hot and cold.

In the photo you can clearly see that dirt is deposited in the system, which is loosened by the final rinsing.

Finally, drain all the water from the pipes, tank and boiler again. If the system is completely emptied, you can fill it again and use it normally.

That’s it 🙂 If you do this procedure once a year, your Cali will thank you and the tank will look like new from the inside.
