In most cases, a new year also means new rules and laws, so there will be an important change for motorhome owners from June 2025:
Paragraph 60 of the StVZO comes into force and regulates the obligations for vehicles with LPG systems.
If the gas test was previously voluntary and has no longer been part of the general inspection since 2019, it will apply from June 19, 2025:
(1) The owners of vehicles subject to registration within the meaning of Section 3 (1) sentence 1 of the Vehicle Registration Ordinance and vehicles subject to registration pursuant to Section 4 (2) sentence 1 and (3) sentence 2 of the Vehicle Registration Ordinance shall have the LPG systems of their vehicles with a maximum consumption of 1.5 kg/h, which are not used to power these vehicles, inspected at their own expense in accordance with the technical rule worksheet DVGW G 607 (A) “LPG systems with a maximum consumption of 1.5 kg/h in recreational vehicles, mobile homes and for residential purposes in other vehicles; Operation and testing” (ISSN 0176-3490, DVGW, Bonn, August 2022) of the association “Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches e. V.” Josef-Wirmer-Straße 1-3, 53123 Bonn, Germany
- before they are put into operation for the first time
- before recommissioning after modifications requiring testing and
- thereafter recurring at intervals of 24 months from the previous test (repeat test)
There are penalties for non-compliance:
2 – 4 months over the deadline – 15 Euro fine
4 – 8 months over the deadline – 25 Euro fine
More than 8 months over the deadline – 60 euro fine
You should also bear in mind that some campsites insist on a valid gas test.
