We have already described in a post the FRS shipping company and its ferry connection from Rügen to Sweden and undoubtedly mentioned as a real alternative to the land or bridge route.

ToggleNew destination port
From 2023, the connection between Germany and Sweden will change. In future, the Skane Jet will no longer travel from Rügen to Ystad in Sweden, but will instead head for the ferry port in Trelleborg. As before, the crossing takes 2.5 hours.
The reasons for the change seem logical, as Trelleborg is much more suitable for day trips to Malmö than Ystad has been.
FRS writes in the press release about this:
With the port change, FRS Baltic will offer its customers even more service in the future. Among other things, there are plans to expand the range of day trips. In addition to Ystad, new excursions are planned to Lund, the “Cambridge of Sweden”, Copenhagen and Malmö. “With the change to Trelleborg, our guests can reach their vacation destination even faster thanks to better transport connections and also choose from a variety of interesting excursion packages,” adds Moritz Bruns, Managing Director of FRS Baltic GmbH. Another advantage of the port change: Trelleborg is ideally suited as a high-performance hub for the cargo business. The carriage of small freight units and express general cargo will complement FRS Baltic’s portfolio of services from 2023.
Prices & season start
We stick to our recommendation even with the new destination port Trelleborg and would choose the trip to Sweden with the Skane Jet anytime. Unfortunately, it is similar with FRS as with most ferries, over the winter months no crossings are offered and so only the bridge connection remains for our winter trip to Sweden.
From 01.04.2023 you can again travel with FRS from Germany directly to Sweden. Of course, the prices vary according to the travel season, so they are significantly higher in the high season than it is the case in April.
A one-way trip with the Grand California and two people would cost around 125 euros in early April, which is almost a bargain compared to the bridge connections.
