Some of you may have already noticed that the siphon in the shower tray has broken or the drain is defective.
Volkswagen has now published a new TPI with the number 2074268/1.
The problem was investigated and it was found that the siphon ribs are broken or cracked in many cases.
Why is this happening?
According to VW, the problem is often due to the use of certain cleaning agents.
The culprits include:
-Chloride-containingcleaners (e.g. Domestos): These can make the material brittle and lead to cracks.
-Acetic acidand ethyl alcohol: These chemicals can also cause damage.
–Concentrated window cleaner: Also not ideal for the siphon.
The result?
Brittle cracks, shiny fractures and lots of trouble.
What can you do?
VW recommends cleaning the siphon with water or a wire brush only and not using any aggressive chemicals.
When cleaning, please also ensure that the screws are only loosened or tightened by hand – no tools, otherwise there is a risk of mechanical damage.
Our conclusion
Be careful what cleaning agents you use to avoid such problems.
Unfortunately, the whole thing is not covered by the warranty if the damage was caused by improper handling.
So better be careful!
